Kamagari Ancient Salt Making Remains Restoration Pavilion

Reference/Local/Exhibition/Literature Museum
This museum facility is located on the grounds of Hiroshima Prefectural Beach facing the Aki-nada sea. The museum recreates an archeological excavation of the site of an ancient earthenware salt production facility, enabling visitors to see what the site looked like when it was being investigated by archeologists. The site’s salt production furnace is believed to have been 110 by 180 centimeters and to have been paved inside with circular flat stones around 20 centimeters in size and five centimeters thick. Sue ware and Haji ware pottery used to make salt around the fifth century, have also been excavated in the area. Inside, visitors can also try making seaweed salt, an ancient variety of salt produced by heating seaweed (specifically, Sargassum fulvellum) in an earthenware pot and then drying it.

    呉市の蒲刈町の県民の浜の近くにあります。昔、大規模な製塩施設があった場所らしく、遺跡となっていて見学もすることができます。職員の方が色々説明してくださいました。
