Ayu Falls
A four-minute drive from the Shinshiro Interchange on the Shinmei Expressway. This waterfall on the Kansa River, a tributary of the Toyogawa River, is located inside Tenryu-Okumikawa Quasi-National Park. In summer, visitors can watch the local seasonal custom of kasa amiryo umbrella net fishing up close. A style of fishing practiced below waterfalls in the area for ages, a long pole with a net on one end is used to catch sweetfish going upstream. Visitors can view the fishing from the Kansa-gawa Ohashi Bridge. Surrounded by lush natural beauty, during the fishing season in summer, the bridge is also is the perfect place to enjoy a cooling breeze.
