Toyukan
This activity center is one hour from the Yaita Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway. Situated in the Koisago district, a member of the Most Beautiful Villages in Japan Union, here visitors can try activities such as forming pottery from local Koisago clay by hand or using a potter's wheel, as well as pottery painting. The spacious facility can accommodate up to 100 people at a time, making it perfect for large groups. Koisago ware is famous for its gold crystals and its origins date back to 1830 when Tokugawa Nariaki, lord of Mito Domain, began using the local clay in the official pottery making workshop of Mito Domain. Koisago ware has also been selected for inclusion in the 100 Best Local Specialty Products from Tochigi Prefecture list and has been designated a Tochigi Traditional Craft.
