Shirahamakan
This hot spring hotel is about 30 minutes from Shirahama Station via a free shuttle bus. Shirahama Onsen is counted among Japan's three oldest hot springs, along with Arima Onsen and Dogo Onsen. It's even written about in the Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves and the Later Chronicles of Japan Continued. There are six open-air baths with free-flowing hot spring water in the men's and women's areas, and guests can use them 24 hours a day. A mineral deposit cascade has accumulated at their large common bath, attesting to the water's high mineral concentration, and the smell of sulfur fills the air from the abundant flow of geothermal water. Stop by their Ashiyu-tei for a relaxing soak in a foot bath along with a light meal.
