Gokayama Gorobei

Local Cuisine
At this restaurant on the Shogawa River in the World Heritage Suganuma Gassho-zukuri Village, guests dine on traditional Gokayama cuisine in a gassho-zukuri steep-roofed house built about 200 years ago surrounded by the seasons. Take off your shoes as you enter to use their table or tatami mat floor seating. They have a traditional irori hearth, and time seems to pass slowly like long ago. The cuisine focuses on Japanese style gozen set meals packed with the natural goodness of Gokayama. They also offer à la carte items such as Gokayama soba noodles and deep-fried char. You can make reservations to view folk music traditions like kokiriko, the mugiya-kasa dance, and osayobushi performances.
