Yamagiri Shokudo
This eatery is a seven-minute drive from the JR Chuo West Line's Nagiso Station. Located in Tsumago-juku, it has a Showa Retro atmosphere. Their gohei mochi rice-cake sticks are the pride of the shop. Smothered in their secret sauce made with walnuts and sesame seeds, eating them is like a taste of old Japan. They also sell them vacuum packed to enjoy their aromatic freshness on the go. They have lots of seasonal items too, like warabi mochi (bracken starch dumplings), kuzu mochi (arrowroot dumplings), and handmade zenzai (bean jam), as well as tokoroten (gelatin noodle dessert) in summer and amazake (sweet gruel prepared from rice-malt) in winter. Visit their souvenir corner for limited edition Shinshu soba buckwheat noodles, locally produced honey, tofu-konnyaku, and more.

- Good place for a quick bite
- Soba were good and filling after a long day hiking the Nakasendo trail. Had also the chance to play space invader which was fun!
