Okakuratenshin Rokkakudo
10-minutes by car from the Myoko-Kogen Interchange. This building was built in the site of Akakurasansou mountain villa where Okakura Tenshin, founder of the Tokyo Art School (Now Tokyo University of the Arts), spent his later years. It was built by volunteers after Tenshin's death and is said to have been built in the style of Yumedono of Nara's Horyuji Temple whose beauty had been affirmed by Tenshin's surveys. Inside the building is a golden bust of Tenshin created by one of his students, sculptor Hirakushi Denchu. The area is famous for its Japanese azalea and autumn colors.
