Komako-no-yu Hot Spring

This public bath is approximately a 20-minute walk from JR Echigo-Yuzawa Station and takes its name from Komako, the heroine from Kawabata Yasunari's novel Snow Country. While small the facility does have a resting room with tatami mats, a shop, and a display with documents from Snow Country. From the windows near the baths you can look out at the Yuzawa Mountain Range. Bath towel rentals are available making it easy to drop in empty handed. The spring water is rich in sulfur and calcium chloride with low alkalinity and hypotonicity and has a positive effect on neuralgia, myalgia, frozen shoulder, and chronic digestive illnesses.

共同浴場です。地元の方もかなりいます。入り方が悪いと叱られます。大抵の方は大丈夫ですが。お湯は熱めでした。意外だったのは建物が新しかったことです。気持ちよかったです。

湯沢町の共同浴場の一つ。露天風呂はない。小さな内風呂が１つあるだけだ。自分が行ったのは、平日の正午。浴場には先客が５人いた。湯は無臭、透明。入っている時は、個性を感じなかった。また熱くて、１５分ぐらいしか入っていられなかった。しかし、ここを出た後、何気なく頬、額を触るとスベスベしていた。この温泉、肌に良いらしい。
このご時世に刺青OKな温泉のようです。

このご時世に刺青を堂々と見せつけて入浴できる貴重な温泉です。コロナ対応で現在は休憩室が使えないので、休憩できずに入口前のベンチで待つしかなくて湯冷めしてしまいそうです。貴重品専用ロッカーがあるだけで、着替えはカゴとなります。リンスインシャンプー、ボディソープが置いてありました。内湯しかありませんが、窓からの眺めは素晴らしいです。
