Numata Castle Ruins
This castle built on top of a cliff along the upper reaches of the Tone River has been selected as one of the Top 100 Castles in Japan. Fierce battles were waged by the Uesugi and Takeda clans for this strategic point in North Kanto. After the downfall of the Numata clan, the Sanada and Honda clans occupied the castle in succession. A five-story keep was built during the rule of the Sanada clan but was later reduced. Currently a portion of the honmaru remains, with Numata Park, an elementary school, and a high school on the surrounding grounds.
