Yakushiji Temple Yasumigaoka Hachimangu

The Yasumigaoka Hachimangu shrine which protects Yakushiji Temple was ceremonially transferred along with its tutelary deity from Usa District in Oita Prefecture to its current location sometime between 889 and 898. The main hall and side halls were built on slightly elevated, stacked stone platforms. The sitting room located in the west side of the front yard, although heavily restored over the years, was built at nearly the same time as the main shrine in 1603, making it an historical and cultural heritage site.

★参道は花のトンネル八幡宮

薬師寺花会式の賑やかな法要の声を背にして、南門を抜けて「休ケ岡八幡宮」に参詣しました。観光客が戻った薬師寺と打って変わって、広前には誰一人いませんでした。参道は時あたかも桜満開、青年二人が近鉄線と桜のコラボを撮るために三脚を立てていました。長閑な南都、春たけなわの西ノ京でした。2023/3/27
八幡さんがここで休んだから「休ケ岡」？、本当かな？？

この神社の境内を通り過ぎて薬師寺に参拝しました。当然、先にこの八幡さんにお詣りしてから。ここは薬師寺の守護、鎮守社の八幡さんです。遠く九州の宇佐八幡宮から八幡大神が西暦８５５年に行教和尚により元石清水八幡宮に勧請された際に、ここで休憩されたことから休ケ岡と云う名称になった？とか・・・。社殿は重文ですが、八幡三神像は平安時代作の国宝です。(奈良国立博物館に寄託されている)。
薬師寺参拝前にこちらで身を清めましょう、とのことです

車を駐車場に停めて薬師寺に向かうとこちらの神社を最初に通ります。立て看板を見ると「薬師寺参拝前に、御鎮守である休ヶ丘大社にて身を清めましょう」といった内容が書かれています。と言うわけでこちらの神社を最初に参拝させて頂きました。確かに薬師寺訪問前に気分が少し高まりました。
