Daian-ji Temple

Temple
This temple is located at Daian-ji 2-chome in Nara City. It originated from Kumagori-shoja Monastery, which was built by Prince Shotoku. The wooden standing statue of the Eleven-headed Kannon has been designated an Important Cultural Property, and there’s also a wooden standing statue of the Four Heavenly Kings and other Buddhist statues from the Nara period. Nowadays, it is known as the “cancer sealing temple.”

    南都七寺の一寺。聖徳太子創建の熊疑精舎を淵源として官大寺筆頭として我国仏教の源流と言われている。ここは癌封じの「大安なる寺」として良く知られている。小生自身も肺癌になったのでここへは毎年、参拝している。創建後1400年を数える古寺中の古寺です。

    奈良時代から平安時代前半迄は東大寺や興福寺と並ぶ大寺だったらしい。本尊は十一面観音さんです。今は無いが東西に七重の塔が立ち南大寺とも言われていた。現在は高野山真言宗のお寺です。特に癌封じのお寺として有名です。
