You’ll find this archive in Fukushima Sekimachi of Kiso Town. It has been situated on a key point along the Nakasendo, one of the five major highways radiating from Edo, for about 270 years, and it features a faithful restoration of the Fukushima checkpoint, one of the four major checkpoints. You’ll find exhibits with documents related to the checkpoint, as well as historical transport restrictions such as the “iriteppo” and “deonna” policies.

Very historic place .The important Sekisho which is the control gate of old Edo era road Nakasendo. Even the princes of the emperor had passed here to go to Tokyo in the 18th century. The people here...

下の道路の無料駐車場から階段を登って行きました。クローズの15分前に着いたので確認しましたが、「ゆっくり見ていって」と言ってくださり助かりました。往時と同じように復元されていて、街道好きにはたまりません。帰る際も、受け付けの親切な女性が木曽福島のことを詳しく教えてくださり、とても勉強になりました。

福島関所は中山道のほぼ中央。東海道の箱根、荒居、中山道の碓水と並ぶ重要な関所です。現在の建物は、復元されたものですが、ここを通らないと先に行けない関所に適した地形。手形や改め所なども見ごたえがあります。
