Kyoto Candy Hoshodo

Japanese Confectionery
A venerable candy shop founded in 1897 located on Teramachi-dori Avenue in Kyoto City’s Nakagyo Ward. The shop’s candies, made with old fashioned way by slowly stewing sugary mixtures in a copper pot directly over a fire, are colorful and glossy. The shop sells a variety of candies in attractive jars sure to make great gifts, including candies containing 40 individually hand-crafted stripes, candies modeled after marbles, and “amezaiku candies which bear the face of the “Otafuku,” a traditional image of an ugly, old woman. The shop’s handmade throat drops and seasonal wine candies are also popular.
