Old Russian Consulate
This building has red brick walls, white window frames and a blue roof. The charming building which was built on the Saiwai-zaka slope leading up to the foot of Mt. Hakodate is the former Russian consulate. After the opening of Hakodate, Goshkevich arrived as the first Russian consul. After repeated construction and fire, the present building as it is seen now, was completed in 1908. It became a Soviet Union consular office after the Russian Revolution but closed in 1944. Currently you can only see the outside of the building while the luxuriously decorated interior remains closed to the public.
