Nishidaya
This pickled vegetable shop is ten minutes' walk from Tofukuji Station, and ten minutes' drive from Kyoto station. Their wide variety is centered around the Shibazuke style Oragamurazuke pickles, made in the style passed down in the old capital of Ohara, as well as kombu kelp and shredded daikon, eggplant, or burdock root preserved in soy sauce. Their main product, Shibazuke-fu Oragamurazuke, replaces the original eggplant with cucumbers, and pickles them along with ginger, myouga ginger, and red shiso seeds. The gentle sourness and firm cucumber combine to create an elegant taste treat. Their trademark symbol is an orange circle overlaid with an Oharame woman peddler.
