Hogonji Temple

Temple
This Buddhist temple is located in Dogoyuzuki-cho, Matsuyama City. Records state the temple was founded in 665. The site is believed to be the birthplace of Ippen, founder of Jishu Buddhism, and the grounds have been designated a Historic Site by the prefecture. The main temple and temple kitchen were burned down in a fire in 2013 but have since been rebuilt thanks to donations by parishioners and others. A new temple hall, dedicated to Ippen, was also built at this time.
