Tachibana Shrine
A Shinto shrine located in Chijiwa-cho, Unzen City. The shrine is dedicated to Tachibana Shuta, a man who served as aide-de-camp to the crown prince and who also served as the principal of a school for cultivating young officer candidates. A museum on the grounds dedicated to the man operates out of a portion of Tachibana's childhood residence, which was dismantled and moved here. The temple is a famous destination for cherry blossom viewing, and in the spring some 1,000 cherry trees along the approach to the shrine come into bloom. At the end of the year, the shrine's torii gate is decorated with huge traditional bamboo decorations standing over 10-meters-tall which have been granted a Guinness World Record.
