Kyonin-ji Temple

This temple is in Hiroba, Kamogawa City. It was built to mourn two of Nichiren's disciples who lost their lives at one of the four great persecutions of Nichiren believers due to assaults from the estate head, TojoKagenobu at the sacred Komatsubara persecution site. The over 1000-year-old tree, Koshinnomaki, can be seen here. It is from this tree that Kishimojin, the goddess of childbirth, was said to descend to save Nichiren during the persecution.

日蓮を救った神の降りた槙

寺名の由来は鏡忍坊日暁にちなむ。彼は日蓮とともに訪れたこの地で、地頭に襲撃され討死したが、日蓮は槙の樹上に現れた鬼子母神のおかげで一命をとりとめた。いわゆる小松原の法難である。後日、日蓮の命でこの寺が建立されたそうだ。そして、その槙の木が境内に現存し、[降神の槙]と呼ばれている。かなり独特な樹形のうえ、幹が布でグルグル巻きにされていたり、支柱や竹の笠のがあり異彩を放っている。一見の価値。
立派な本堂

安房鴨川駅から海とは反対方向に20分ほど歩いたところにある日蓮宗のお寺です。日蓮が東条景信らに襲撃された地に、殺害された弟子たちの供養のために日蓮が命じて建てられたそうです。境内はとても広く、立派な本堂や波の伊八の彫刻のある祖師堂があります。

御朱印集めをしている私としては鴨川では外せないお寺です。平日に伺ったのでとても静かでした。境内はとても広いです。
