Hayamizu Park
"Park located in the center of a quiet residential area two kilometers east of Miyakonojo Station. The facilities of this large scale park include a multipurpose field and a water play zone. The abundant springs in the park fill ponds of various sizes. Originally a municipal botanical garden opened in 1957, there are around 150 species of trees and herbs grown in the park as well as a ""Manyo Botanical Garden"" planted with plants mentioned in the ancient ""Manyoshu"" poetry anthology and ""Kojiki"" and ""Nihon Shoki"" chronicles; and a medicinal herb garden with many medicinal herbs growing in it. In late April each year, some 420 thousand iris plants, the city flower, come into bloom. The park serves as a space for local residents to rest, relax, and refresh."
