Tsukuriyama Burial Mounds

These ancient burial mounds are located in Kodai Izumo Oryo no Oka. No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 are rectangular-shaped ancient burial mounds. In particular, No. 1 has two layers and is 60 meters long and five meters in height, and is the largest rectangular-shaped ancient burial mound in Japan along with Onaru ancient burial mounds made during 100 years of the early Kofun period (about 250-). It has an impressive pit-hole style stone chamber and artifacts are stored at the Tokyo National Museum. You can climb the stairs of each mound, and you can see the burial mound, Nakaumi Sea and Shimane Peninsula from the observation plaza. Flowering trees including azaleas are planted in the garden and it is perfect for strolls.
