Shimogamo Tropical Botanical Garden is a 15-minute drive from Shimoda Station right near the Shimogamo Nettai Shokubutsuen Mae bus stop. It is unique for making use of heat from Shimogamo Hot Spring to grow tropical plants in a hothouse. Ever since 2014, admission has been free. Visitors can not only see hibiscus, bougainvillea, and other tropical plants throughout the year but also see many plants that are unique to each of the four seasons. Visitors never get tired of the splendid colors and unusual shapes of these plants. Some plants are available for sale or rent. The onsite parlor sells miracle fruit, sherbet, and fresh fruit juice.

伊豆急下田駅からバスで25分程度なのに交通費が一人往復で1320円かかり地方のバス料金の高さに驚きです。温室の植物も特別なものがあるわけでもなく、説明も少なく、無造作に鉢植えが並んでいるだけに感じました。外観もかなり年季の入っている様子でした。カフェで飲み物でも購入しようと思いましたが、スタッフは常連のお客さんと話してばかりでキョロキョロしていたが特に対応されずじまいで交通費をかけて行くべき...

昨年2月に行きました。ここは無料でしたが、15時までの営業で、昔からあるような感じの建物でした。中は綺麗でした。

以前と違い、今では現状を維持しているようですが、他に無い変わった植物もあります。私は、伺うたびに、新しい発見があり、毎回新たな植物が我が家に増えています。一つ紹介すると、「マダガスカルジャスミンの八重花」や前回伺った時に、販売できる物が無かった「ヘリオトロープ」紫色の小さな花で、香水の材料に使われるだけあって、甘ーい香りが強い鉢を、次に伺った時には、沢山の鉢を作ってあり、早速買って来ました。お値段...
