Wakasa Park
A park named after the heroin of a tragic story from the history of the transmission of matchlock guns to Japan. The park is located a 10-minute walk from the “Tenjinbashi” bus stop. Wakasa, the women whom the park is named after, married a Portuguese man in order to learn how matchlock guns were made, playing a little-known role in the domestic production of these weapons in Japan. Facilities include a monument to the friendship between Japan and Portugal, a memorial to those who have died in war, a sumo ring, and tennis courts. The park serves as a space for rest and relaxation for local residents.
