Located on the site of Hitoyoshi Castle, this museum has displays on the construction and history of the castle, including the 12-meter long Kuma Ezu diagram. A reconstructed stone cellar gives you a chance to see the masonry of that period. These are quite rare in Japan. They also have facilities for meetings and trainings, and locals use it as a place to study.

人吉城跡は、天守閣などの建物はほとんど残っていません。代わりに、こちらの歴史館で見たり学んだらすることができます。土日には、歴史館近くにある門櫓という横長の建物も見学できます。

たまたま寄った人吉市で偶然発見し入館。玄関で靴を脱ぎ、スリッパで館内を歩きます。建物は小さく入場料も210円と激安、人吉に関する前知識も皆無だった為それ程期待はしていなかったのですが、施設の方が設備の使い方や歴史について詳しく説明して下さったので、人吉を治めていた武家・相良氏の事がよくわかり、とても面白かったです。また、相良氏の家老屋敷から発見された謎の地下室が保存されており、大変興味深かった...
人吉城の下の広い公園の中にある。

相良氏の歴史を詳しく解説してあり、参考になる。またお下の乱の説明、地下の遺構との関係が説明されていて面白く見た。
