A public bathhouse located in the Ureshino Onsen in Shimojuku, Ureshino-machi, Ureshino City. Built in the gothic style, the bathhouse carries a charming, Taisho Roman atmosphere. In addition to a large indoor bath area and private reservable bath (which incorporate universal design principles), the bathhouse also has a citizen's art gallery. The baths are filled from a sodium - hydrogen carbonate - chloride spring whose waters are said to beautify the skin and treat such ailments as lower back pain, nerve pain, rheumatism, and women's diseases.

レトロな嬉野公衆浴場

嬉野温泉街にある公衆浴場シーボルトの湯です。オレンジの矢根が目を引くレトロな雰囲気です。温泉宿に泊まったのでお風呂は利用せず、外観からの見学のみでしたが、嬉野温泉を代表する観光地なので次回は温泉も利用したいです。

シーボルトというと国禁の日本地図をオランダに持ち出そうとした人物として数多くの関係者の処刑の原因となってしまったという不穏なイメージがあります。しかし地元では日本文化を愛した人として日本の自然科学の研究者として親しまれており、嬉野温泉に訪れその泉質を著書に記載していることから嬉野温泉にゆかりの人物としてこの湯の名がついたそうです。温泉施設内はバリアフリー、温泉前には90分まで無料の駐車場がありま...

入浴はしませんでしたが、TVで見て是非訪問したい場所でした。生で見学出来たので満足です！色鮮やかな建物で、駐車場もそばに有ります。嬉野温泉ホテルには５、６回宿泊してるのに、知らなかったシーボルトの湯に立ち寄れて良かったです。
