Birthplace of Yataro Iwasaki
This historical building in Ichinomiya, Inokuchi Ko, Aki City was the birthplace of Iwasaki Yataro, the founder of Mitsubishi. Built around 1795 by Iwasaki’s great-grandfather Iwasaki Yajiemon, the single-story thatch-roof home has been restored and preserved. The onigawara (decorative roof tile with the face of a demon) of the house’s attached earthen storehouse bears the three-tiered diamond family crest of the Iwasaki family. This crest is believed to be the prototype for the Mitsubishi logo.
