Warei Shrine
This shrine is located in Mizutaniyama, Koda, Kochi City. Founded by ancestors of Sakamoto Ryoma in 1762, it enshrines the guardian deity of the Sakamoto family. It is said that Sakamoto Ryoma visited the shrine in 1862 to perform a mizusakazuki ritual, drinking water together from a sake cup at a final parting when he left the Tosa clan. Each March, the shrine holds the Ryoma Dappan Matsuri Festival commemorating his leaving the Tosa clan.
