Roadside Station Washi no Sato

This waterside park located along the Naka River offers visitors the chance to experience canoeing. It also includes the lower station of the Tairyuji Ropeway, western Japan’s longest aerial lift. The Washi no Sato Tourist Information and Local Products Center has information about tourism and local products, a souvenir shop, and a rest hall. It is often bustling with pilgrims and tourists visiting Tairyuji Temple, the 21st temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, which is located at the terminus of the ropeway.

太龍寺ロープウェイ乗り場にあり、観光物産センター、水際公園、売店、宿泊施設、日帰り入浴などを備える大規模な道の駅で、駐車場も広々としています。朱色の欄干の橋を渡ると、入り口は唐破風が張り出した寺院風で、内部には夫婦鷲の一刀彫りがありました。売店では編み笠や白装束を販売しており、四国らしさを感じます。

道の駅の奥に太龍寺ロープウェイの乗り場があるので、太龍寺へ行く方は道の駅を通ることになります。道の駅には観光案内、土産物売場、レストランがありますが、レストランの営業時間は「11:30から14:00まで、かつ不定休」なので昼時以外は利用できません。休憩場所に見事な「一刀彫の夫婦鷲」が飾られていました。

八十八か所の21番太龍寺へ行く際に利用する日本有数の長さを誇る太龍寺ロープウェーの麓の駅にあるのが道の駅鷲の里です。お土産など売られていますが、規模は大きくないのでロープウェーの待ち時間に見る程度で十分です。
