Kannoji Temple

This Buddhist temple is the 17th temple on 88 sacred places on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Records state the great monk Kobo Daishi stayed in this area when repair work was being conducted on Manno Lake, and later this temple was erected to protect the lake. The temple was abandoned after being set on fire during war but a portion of it was rebuilt by supporters in 1934. The temple's principal object of worship is a statue of Bhaisajyaguru.

モミジの紅葉

弘法大師も改修に関わった満濃池のほとりに鎮座しています。境内にはモミジが多く植えられており、11月初旬は紅葉が始まりかけで、緑、黄、オレンジ、赤などのグラデーションが綺麗でした。

日本最大の灌漑用水と知られますため池、満濃池に寄り添うように、建立されています。満濃池が、圧倒されるほど大きいため、その存在感に、かなりひっそりとたたずんでいる感じの霊場です。この霊場には、大師堂はありません。本堂の横の階段を昇って行きますと、大きな弘法大師像があります。
人の気配の無い小さな神社

四国別格二十霊場の一つですが、非常に小さく寂れた感じがします。元々は常に水不足で苦しむこの地に農業用の溜め池を701年に創ったが、818年に決壊し修復が困難を極めた際に朝廷の任命を受け821年に空海が派遣され3か月で溜め池を改修したとされています。その際に空海が池の守護としてこの神社を建立したとされているので821年頃の建立と思われます。神社自体は満濃池の駐車場からすぐの所にあり、石段を昇る...
