Lake Marunuma
This lake is about 80 minutes by car from the Numazu Interchange on the Kanetsu Expressway, and was formed by lava from Mt. Shirane stopping the river flow. The “Marunuma Dam” was built between it and the Lake Ojiri-numa downstream. It is surrounded by virgin forests of oak and birch trees, and the fresh green colors in the early summer and autumnal leaves shining on the lake surface are beautiful. Marunuma Onsen is on the northern shore and is popular as a summer resort. Fish such as rainbow trout are released so it is known as a mecca for lure and fly fishing. The road is closed to vehicles during the winter (late December to late April).
