From December 10th to mid-March, The ICE VILLAGE in Tomamu is it’s own village of ice and a major part of the winter experience in this part of Hokkaido. As is to be expected, the village located in the middle of the forest connected via tunnels to the resort’s main building, feels like a magical place, and is equipped with a variety of amenities that could only be found in a small village constructed out of ice. With entry free to all guests staying at Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU, and only a small fee for visitors staying at Club Med and elsewhere, the ICE VILLAGE is a must see.

ICE VILLAGE 2018 has ended. In the 2017-18 edition of the ICE VILLAGE, once past the imposing gate, a path lit up with starry projection mapping will guide the way to the core of the ICE VILLAGE. The path is short but walking through through the forests along this route really sets the mood for what is coming up. From here, guests are given the chance to make a big entrance by swooping down an ice slide, making it easy to forget one is out in the freezing cold.

The slide takes guests to the core of the village, where several ice domes await, and where in true Tomamu’s fashion, a variety of experiences ensure that the whole gamut of preferences are met. Jumping from ice domes to ice domes, one can enjoy the Ice Flower Gallery, the Ice Sweets Cafe, the atelier of snow and ice, and also have a chilly cocktail in the Ice Bar.

Once you get through all the icy options in the chain of ice domes, the path leads visitors to the centerpiece of the ICE VILLAGE, The Ice Chapel. This chapel, where weddings are actually held for those interested, sits atop a grandiose ice staircase lit up in fluorescent colours and perfect for a wintery prayer or Instagram photo. Whatever you choose to do, the activities will keep you warm and transport you to a magical world of ice.

For those guests willing to brave the elements and spend the night at the ICE VILLAGE, Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU has set out a section of the village to create the Ice Hotel. This chilly hotel which is offered exclusively to guest already staying in the resort, is equipped with a bedroom (inside one of the ice domes), an outdoor hot tub encased in ice and surrounded by forest, and a private whisky lounge with the best labels available exclusively to a couple once the Ice Village has closed down at 10pm. The Ice Hotel experience also includes special winter sleeping bags and even winter pajamas which are sure to keep you warm in the freezing temperature. As having a hotel room booked in the resort is a requirement for those wishing to spend a night in the Ice Hotel, guests can slip out of the experience if it gets too cold for comfort.
