1. Get a selfie below Kaminarimon, the main gate in front of Tokyo’s most popular temple. Everyone else is doing it so why shouldn’t you.
2. Shop for souvenirs at Nakamise. Around here you can find everything from hand made fans and japanese kokeshi dolls to keyrings and t-shirts with many different sorts of Tokyo prints. Also make sure you try some of the tasty sweets and snacks that are made and sold here.
3. Continue up to Sensoji, light some osenko (incense) to heal yourself before you toss a coin in the wooden box and pray for good luck. This is one of the biggest and most impressive temples in Tokyo and we highly recommend you take a good look at all the intricate details. Don’t miss the paintings on the ceiling at the inside of the main temple building.
4. Grab some street food from the vendors next to the temple buildings. The yakisoba and charcoal grilled skewers with beef or seafood comes highly recommended.
5. Check if Denboin, the garden next to the temple, is open. This place survived the air raids of world war two and has been designated a place of special scenic beauty. Unfortunately, it’s only open during a short period every year, usually during the spring, but if you manage to time it right, make sure not to miss the chance to experience one of the most beautiful traditional gardens in Japan.- Senso-ji Temple
