Japan is full of wonders with loads to shop. If you purchase too much and need to send it back home or across the country while staying in Japan, there are several courier services to choose from. Some hotels offer international shipment, while others don’t. That’s when this article comes in handy as it will take you through different courier services for you to choose from.

    Shipping Process
    First, check the FedEX webpage to see if the item can be shipped overseas, and check the price to the destination. You can also request a quote on the website.
    Next, go to the Fedex website here and fill out the online form to open an account. After opening an account, you will need to enter or fill out the waybill and invoice according to the format.
    You can also request for pickup by phone or online. Or alternatively, can also bring your package to the nearest FedEx office for pickup.
    FedEx has a variety of FedEx boxes, including S, M, Large, and 10kg, with prices varying depending on the size and weight of the package. And FedEx's in-house customs broker can handle customs clearance on your behalf.

    DHL

    DHL Service Point Locations
    Check the full list within the 23 central Tokyo wards to find the nearest service point.

    Shipping Process
    After checking the DHL website to find the nearest DHL service point, pack your things to be shipped. Depending on the type of the packages, things you need to prepare may vary. Make sure to check the information from here before finalizing your packages. Once everything is ready to be shipped, go to the nearest DHL service point or alternatively, call for pick up.

    EMS

    Post Office Locations
    There are many post offices in and around Tokyo area. Finding the locations of the post office can be done here.

    Shipping Process
    First check the Japan Post website to confirm if EMS is available in the country you are about to send the package to.
    At this moment, if you want to check the rates and delivery dates, see here.
    Then, pack your package, and label the parcel accordingly to what Japan Post requires. The requirements are stritct so make sure to follow them. Don’t forget to fill out the custom declaration form too.
    When everything is ready, go to the nearest post office to send your packages.
    As of January 2021, when sending packages to the United States, handwritten labels are no longer accepted. For more information, see here.

    Printing Labels
    For sending via EMS, at hotel or at home, anyone can create the labels via laptop or smartphones and print them out. Those without printers can use the smartphones to create the labels and go to the post office with Yu-pri Touch terminals to print it out. However, this is only available in Japanese and may be inconvenient for some so it is recommended to print at home or at a hotel.     Shipping Process
    First, check the UPS website to see regulations for each country.
    Once checking the regulations and packing is done, schedule for a pick up from UPS webpage or go to the nearest drop-off points.

    Yamato Transport

    Maximum Size/Weight
    The maximum linear dimension is 160cm and maximum weight is 25kg. Keep in mind that the parcel size is the total of width, length, and height in centimeters.

    Shipping Process
    First, check the Yamato Transport website to see if the country the package is to be shipped is available or not.
    Next, under “Please Select the Destination Country or Region”, scroll down to the tab to find the country you are about to send the package to. Once that is done, click on the “Go” button. Scroll down and you will see available sizes, price, delivery time, prohibited items and other necessary information.
    Once you agree with the rates, delivery time and etc, start packing. Make sure to pack under the guidelines of Yamato Transport. Since this service is only available in air freight services packing it the correct way is crucial.
    Once the packing is done, call the toll free dial at 0120-5931-69 for further instructions and ask for the nearest sales office for pick up or bring the package directly to there. This toll free dial is available in English.

    Things that can not be shipped
    The full list can be found here. However, to get more precise information about prohibited items to be shipped, under “Please Select the Destination Country or Region”, scroll down to the tab to find the country you are about to send the package to. Once that is done, click on the “Go” button. Scroll down to neary the bottom half, you will see a more precise detail about the prohibited items to be shipped.

    Supplies like card boxes etc. are available for purchase. Contact the toll free number 0120-5931-69 to request the order.

    24 Hour Open Station
    The Ariake Center is open 24hours and items to be shipped can be brought there anytime. However, if a customer want to ship the item on the day brought to the center, they must bring their package by 20:40pm. Later than that, the item will be shipped the following day. This is the closest station open 24hours in the main area of Tokyo.
