    If you’re flying through Narita International Airport en route to another Japanese destination, there are plenty of domestic flights available throughout the day.
    JAL flies direct to major cities in Hokkaido, Osaka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Okinawa, etc. while ANA flies to many of these destinations, as well as Hiroshima.

    Both airlines offer discounted prices on select flight routes for foreigners visiting Japan, with JAL offering the “Japan Explorer Pass” and ANA the“Experience Japan Pass”. You must have an international flight ticket booked from outside of Japan and reservations must be made at least three days before departure.

    Travelers heading to Kyoto, Osaka or Universal Studios Japan can either take a domestic flight to Kansai International Airport or make the 9-10 hour journey by overnight bus.
    Only one bus departs each evening from Narita International Airport (1F floor of Terminals 1, 2 and 3), with the journey costing 8,000-9,000 JPY.
    Tickets can be purchased at the sales counter in the arrivals lobby, online or by telephone.

    If you’re traveling to Nikko, there are three buses per day from the Narita International Airport, with the journey taking three hours and costing around 4,500 JPY. Tickets can be purchased at the sales counter in the arrivals lobby, with no web reservations possible.

    Niigata and Kanazawa can also be accessed by late-night buses but you must reserve tickets either online or by phone in advance.
    The trip takes 10 to 12 hours and costs 6,000 JPY, with only one bus departing each day. While buses to these destinations take a lot longer when compared to flying, they are a more economical option.

    While traveling by bus takes more time than flying, it’s an affordable alternative to try if you have time. Bus is also the most convenient way of accessing closer destinations, such as Tokyo Disneyland and Mt. Fuji.
