Valley of Gangala is a subtropical forest that originated when a limestone cave collapsed hundreds of thousands of years ago. The valley occupies an area of about 47,995 square meters, and the distance to walk through the valley is about one kilometers. You can experience an ancient natural environment in the valley where there are large trees called “Giant (Ufushu) Gajumaru trees” known as the wise men of the forest as well as the Inagu Cave and the Ikiga Cave. A full-time guide accompanies tours through the valley in order to protect the abundant nature which is highly valuable to both archaeology and folklore science. The time required to take the tour is about one hour 20 minutes.

The most unique thing about this cafe is the setting. Beware of the drippings from the stalactites! The cafe serves coffee and drinks only.

  • Senaga Island

    Okinawa Pref. Tomigusukushi Senaga
Senaga Island, south of Naha Airport, is a small island with a perimeter of about 1.5 kilometer and located after crossing Kaichu-doro Drive (marine drive). “Senagajima Umikaji Terrace” where you can enjoy gourmet food and shopping events on weekends is recommended for both couples and families. The sunset over the East China Sea is beautiful, and you can enjoy the atmosphere of a resort just by going a little further from Naha City. About 10 minutes by car from Naha Airport.
  • Ojima Island

    Okinawa Prefecture Nanjo ball
Ojima Island is a remote island connected to the main island by a 150-meter bridge offshore of Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture. This island which is possible to be reached by car or by foot has “Okinawan style Tempura” as its specialty. While stuffing one’s cheeks with Okinawa’s characteristic thick deep fry battered tempura, you can enjoy the atmosphere of this leisurely island.
  • Kudaka Island

    Okinawa Pref. Nanjoushi Chinen Kudaka
Kudaka Island is a long, thin island that lies five kilometers off the southern coast of the main island of Okinawa. Kudaka Island was believed to be the first place in the Ryukyu Islands that the creator goddess Amamikiyo made after descending from Heaven, and since ancient times it has been venerated as an “island of the gods.” There are many sacred sites on Kudaka Island, such as Udunmya. Many of these places have been sacred to the Ryukuan people since ancient times, and visitors should be aware that some places are off-limits to non-locals.

Okinawa Pref. Nanjoushi Chinen Azama Offing
This uninhabited island floats off the coast of Chinen Village in southern Okinawa Prefecture. It’s accessible via a 15-minute boat ride from the Chinen Marine  Leisure Center. The fine, white sand and crystal clear emerald-green sea will enrapture you, and you can enjoy sea bathing and marine sports to your heart’s content. The island has nothing but a bathroom, so be sure to bring what you need with you.
  • Odohama Beach
    Travel / Tourism
    Okinawa Pref. Itomanshi Odo
During the Bakumatsu period, when the country was closed to outsiders, John Manjiro came back from America and landed at this beach, thus leading it to sometimes be referred to as “John Man beach.” The water is crystal clear, and coral reefs can be seen during low tide. Snorkeling and diving are recommended as well. The beach is also known as a spot that sea turtles often visit in summer to lay their eggs.

Okinawa Areas

Let go of your image of a busy, ordered Japan and replace it with crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, and relaxing folk music: You’ve arrived in Okinawa. A world away from the high intensity of Tokyo, Okinawans appear to live a laid-back beach life on this paradisiacal tropical island that lies in the middle of the East China Sea almost 1,000 kilometers south of mainland Japan’s most southern tip. Home to a spattering of islands, prepare yourself to discover underwater caves, star-shaped sand, and an island culture sometimes unrecognizable from mainland Japan.
