About a 15-minute walk from the JR Kotohira Station, this art museum, with a magnificent view of Mt. Zozu, is located in this scenic area. It has on permanent display the works of the hometown artist, Wada Kunibo, and the potter, Omori Terushige. The works of Wada Kunibo, who was active in many different genres, many with a sense of familiarity, such as his packaging design of a local Kagawa confection. The museum has a cafe, allowing visitors to rest and enjoy a little leisurely hour after viewing the exhibit. This quiet cafe offers one of Kagawa's specialty sweets, kyuman, and coffees and teas.

This is an art museum nestled next to the Zentsuji City Hall. After many works of the Zentsuji born, lacquer ware artist, Onishi Tadao were donated to the city, this museum was opened under the name of Onishi Tadao Memorial Hall. On the first floor, in the permanent exhibit, are works by the artist of such lacquer works of picture frames, vases, and more. The two other exhibit halls within the museum are leased to various art enthusiast groups for their use. Normally, only the first floor exhibit is used as the Onishi Tadao Memorial Hall, but every year, in October, a special exhibit is held in which the whole building is dedicated to showcasing his works. Visitors can appreciate and enjoy the unique perspective of his works where it appears as though a painting is combined with the craftsmanship of lacquer ware.

    JR善通寺駅から本山善通寺に進むメインの通りに有ります。名前からして主として地元民が展示する美術館のように思えます。

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
