- No visit to Matsuyama would be complete without a soak in the hot springs at Dogo Onsen. The baths, which are only for public use, are said to be the oldest hot springs in Japan. There are four bath styles to choose from as well as private rooms that can be rented for a few hours. The building itself is fun to visit, as its interior is a complex design that resembles a maze.

- Located 1 kilometer away from Dogo Onsen, Ishite-ji is the most famous of the Ehime temples that make up the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage temples. The temple grounds are large and contain a number of peculiar attractions, including a cave in which Kukai (774–835), founder of the Shingon Buddhist sect, is said to have spent time in ascetic training. There are also kuhi, or stone slabs, inscribed with haiku by Shiki and Soseki. While you’re there, take a break and try the toasted rice cakes, which are an Ishite-ji specialty.
