This building is a nationally registered Important Cultural Asset in Kachushinmachi, Tsuruoka City. This is a piece of pseudo-Western style architecture built in 1881, and was used as a stopping place by the Meiji emperor on a tour of the Tohoku region. It has housed the Chido Museum since it was relocated to its present location, and it displays a variety of materials on the culture and history of the Meiji period, including pictures of its own construction.

明治のころ、鶴岡は西田川郡だったんですね

現在の鶴岡市は、廃藩置県によって山形県が誕生した後、県下に置かれた11の郡のひとつ、西田川郡となって、郡役所が置かれることになりました。こんな経緯があって、この建物は明治11年に建設された擬洋風建築です。同じ致道博物館内に移設されている旧鶴岡警察署庁舎もまた擬洋風建築なので、この時代にはこのあたりでブームだったんでしょうかね。建物1階は歴史展示室、2階には旧西田川郡役所の創建当時の写真などが...

致道博物館エリア内に有る明治時代に建てられた擬洋風建築の建物です。明治天皇の行在所にもなったというから、当時は先進的な建物だったのでしょうね。ただ、私が訪問時は入館は出来ないようでした。

鶴岡市内の中心部に位置する旧西田川郡役所が鶴が丘城址に建設されている。建設は１８８４年と歴史が古い。まるで中南米にある教会のような建物である。屋根につけられた時計台のようなものは当時日本で作られた洋風館で流行っていたのだろうか？備中高梁の教会とうり二つだ。
