This is one of the western buildings in Mojiko Retro area. It was once used as an office of sea transportation company. Inside is now beautiful a gallery, but as I went at night, I just took pictures...

大正6年に建築された大阪商船の門司支店。設計は日本人だが八角型の塔屋や化粧レンガ等、ヨーロッパの影響を受けた建築物。1階はわたせせいぞうのギャラリーとなっている。

「門司港レトロ」を代表する建造物の一つが、旧大阪商船です。この建物は、大正６年に建てられた大阪商船門司支店を修復したものです。オレンジ色タイルと白い石の帯が調和したデザインの外観と、八角形の塔屋が印象的な建物です。当時、門司港からは一ヶ月の間に台湾、中国、インド、欧州へ60隻もの客船が出航していました。大阪商船ビルはその拠点の一つとして、一階は待合室、二階はオフィスとして使われていたそうです...
