This tour facility is on the grounds of the KDDI Yamaguchi Satellite Communication Center, the largest satellite facility in Japan. In addition to displaying the Ariane Rocket, a satellite launch vehicle, it also offers education on various satellite communication related equipment like solar power generators, undersea cables, and more. You can also observe an array of massive parabola antennas from the observation platform.

出張先への道中に巨大なパラボラアンテナが眼に入り、見学しました。海外のTV番組や国際電話、ネットなどを今では当たり前に使っているけど、海底ケーブルと通信衛星回線との2本立てで成り立っていることを改めて教えてくれます。大小23基のアンテナの向きがインド洋側と太平洋側の２方向に向いているという説明には、両方を見通せるこの場所が現役で衛星通信用として使われている大きな理由の一つだということが実感できます...
