Gappo Park
This seaside park has been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful urban parks in Japan; in spring, cherry trees burst into bloom, while in early summer the blossoms of the wisteria growing on the park grounds are lovely. Park highlights include the Miyo no Matsu pine tree, designated a Natural Monument by the city, an avenue of pine trees, and stone monuments dedicated to poets such as Takuboku Ishikawa and Matsuo Basho, and visitors are particularly recommended to take a stroll through the grounds. The park also has a playground and small zoo area and is a popular destination for families with children.
