Suimui Utaki
This place of worship is situated in front of the walls of Shuri Castle, and is one of 10 sacred sites within the castle. Existing since before the castle was erected, this holy site is said to have been around since the creation of the Ryukyu Kingdom, and its long history is evident in the several poems about Suimui Utaki present in the Omoro Soshi, the oldest compilation of Ryukyuan songs. The current structure was restored in December of 1997.
