Islam Yokocho is located in Shin-Okubo, which is just one station from Shinjuku Station.
It features several halal food shops (many of which sell iPhones near their entrance), as well as restaurants dishing up halal meat and ethnic fare.
“Halal” is an Arabic word that means “lawful” or “permitted” and is associated with the correct preparation of meat according to Muslim beliefs.
Aside from halal meat, the stores of Islam Yokocho sell a variety of unique ingredients that you won’t find in other parts of Tokyo. -

One of the first ethnic food shops you’ll encounter in Islam Yockocho is the Barahi Foods & Spice Center, which sells a wide variety of spices and halal-certified foods. Most of the ingredients are sourced from Nepal and India, and on the building’s second floor is a restaurant called MoMo where you can feast on authentic Nepalese cuisine.

Located next to the Barahi Foods & Spice Center is Green Nasco, a food shop that sells halal-certified meat and Indian spices.
It sells the widest variety of Indian snacks of any store in Islam Yokocho, which generally cost between 150 and 200 yen per bag.

Spicy barbecued chicken
This restaurant adjacent to Green Nasco specializes in biryani and couscous, with a focus on Indian, Arabian and Turkish cuisine.
A highlight on the menu is their spicy barbecued chicken, which costs 150 yen per skewer if you dine in.
But most people opt to grab one (or a few) from the counter at the front of the restaurant as they cost just 100 yen per skewer to take away and can be enjoyed while strolling the street.
Nasco Food Court can get busy, so don’t be surprised if there’s a line outside the entrance! -

The Asian supermarket stocks a wide variety of halal food and is one of the most popular shops in Islam Yokocho.

Islam Yokocho is two to three minutes on foot from Shin-Okubo Station.
