How to get to the Tokyo Big Sight 2020

The Tokyo Big Sight regularly hosts large events and conventions, such as the “Comiket” each August and December, the Japan Hobby Show that takes place in April and the Tokyo Motor Show in October. But it’s also a tourist destination in its own right, with numerous cafes and restaurants where you can dine, as well as housing modern artworks by Emiko Kasahara, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje Van Bruggen.

If you’re planning to visit this architectural icon during your stay in Tokyo, we’ve put together a guide for how to get to the Tokyo Big Sight using public transportation from destinations around Tokyo and the Kansai area. So whether you’re traveling from the Haneda and Narita airports or from the cities of Osaka and Fukuoka, we’ve got you covered.

Traveling by train:

Trains are the most convenient way of accessing the Tokyo Big Sight, with two stations located nearby Rinkai Line and Yurikamome Line.

The Rinkai line is the easiest way to access the Tokyo Big Sight if you’re coming from Saitama, Chiba, Shibuya and Shinjuku, with the Kokusai-tenjijo Station the most convenient. It’s easy to switch to the JR line at Osaki and Oimachi Stations, as well as to the Tokyo Metro at Shinkiba Station. The Rinkai Line also offers a nonstop service with the JR Saikyo Line, so you can access the Tokyo Big Sight from Shinjuku or Ikebukuro without having to change trains.

From the Kokusai-tenjijo Station, it’s just a seven-minute walk to the Tokyo Big Sight. However, keep in mind that there are long staircases and escalators before you reach the ticket gate, so allow at least 15 minutes. Once you leave the station, walk to the right and continue along the street until you reach the Tokyo Big Sight.

The Yurikamome Line is a good option for people who are coming from Shimbashi Station on the Yamanote Line or Toyosu Station on the Yurakucho Line. Simply get off the train at the Tokyo Big Sight Station (renamed from International Exhibition Hall Main Gate Station as of March 16, 2019) and you’ll see the Tokyo Big Sight in front of you. It’s just three minutes’ walk from the station. If you are coming from Tokyo Station, then it’s recommended that you travel to Shimbashi and continue along the Yurikamome Line from there.

It’s also possible to travel by bus from the Tokyo metropolitan area to the Big Sight, with metro buses and limousine shuttle buses available. When special events are held at the venue, temporary buses may also be utilized to enhance the efficiency in moving so many people.

There are metropolitan Toei buses from Tokyo Station’s Yaesu Exit to the Big Sight, with the journey taking around 40 minutes. Buses also depart from Monzen-Nakacho Station to the Big Sight, stopping at Toyosu Station along the way.

Alternatively, you can take the Keihin Kyuko express bus from Yokohama Station to the Tokyo Big Sight, which takes around 50 minutes.

It’s important to remember that bus travel times are more subject to change than train routes due to unexpected traffic conditions. So if you’re limited on time, it’s best to catch the train.

Another option is to travel by water-bus to the Tokyo Big Sight, with regular services from the Sunrise Pier to Ariake South Passenger Terminal, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the convention center. While this is a scenic option, it’s also a slower route and doesn’t operate every day due to sea conditions. Always check the operating status before planning your trip and be aware that the water-bus doesn’t depart early in the morning, with services starting at 10 am.

Boat Station

If you’re traveling by limousine bus from Narita Airport, there is no route that stops at the main “Tokyo Big Sight” bus stop. However, you can alight at “Hotel Sotetsu Grand Fresa Tokyo-bay Ariake”, which is just five minutes’ walk from the Tokyo Big Sight. The journey takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes and the fare costs 2,900 yen for adults (1,450 yen for children), which you can purchase onboard.

It’s a direct and comfortable way to get there, although there are only six buses per day, so you need to carefully check the schedule. You don’t need a reservation for departures from Narita Airport but you they are required if you’re traveling in the opposite direction.

If you’re arriving at Haneda Airport, there are two different bus options for accessing the Tokyo Big Sight - the Airport Limousine Bus and the Keikyu Bus. The fare for both is 630 yen for adults and 320 yen for children, with the journey taking between 25 and 40 minutes.

Airport Limousine Buses depart every hour from bus stops number 7 at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, as well as bus stop number 2 at the International Terminal.

Ticket Counter

The Keikyu Bus makes four stops between Haneda Airport and the Big Sight, so the journey takes slightly longer. Unlike the Airport Limousine Bus, tickets must be purchased before getting on the Keikyu Bus, with ticket counters located in the first-floor arrivals lobby of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and in the second-floor arrival’s hall of the International Terminal. If the counters are busy, you can also find Keikyu Bus ticket machines near the bus stops where you can purchase tickets.

Buses depart from stop number 14 at both Terminal 1 and 2 and bus stop number 4 at the International Terminal.

If you’re traveling to the Tokyo Big Sight from the Kansai area, it’s best to get the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Shinagawa Station from either Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya or Fukuoka. From Shinagawa Station, you can transfer to Osaki Station by a JR train and alight at the Rinkai Line’s International Exhibition Station.
