  • Nemichi Shrine
    Travel / Tourism
Gifu Pref. Sekishi Itadori On the Shimane Road 448
Nemichi Shrine sits in an area surrounded by lush vegetation. The main enshrined deities are Nemichi Okami, Izanami no Mikoto, Oyamatsumi no Kami, and Kanayamabiko no Kami. The spring festival is held in April and the autumn festival is held in October. Beside the main gate to the shrine is a small pond nicknamed Monet’s Pond. So called because it resembles Claude Monet’s water lilies. The place has become particularly well known on the internet and consequently attracts visitors to the shrine almost daily.

The Otaki Limestone Cave is said to have been formed through groundwater erosion in the faults of the Palaeozoic limestone rock formation. There are lots of things to see along the approximately 700 meter section such as the ‘tenjokai’ group of stalactites and the mysterious Otaki (waterfall). There is a fishing pond close by where you can catch and eat your fish there and then.

This place was fantastic! The village itself was gorgeous in a deep pine valley. After alighting from the cable car, be ready for the cool draft that comes out of the cave. The cave was stunning...

  • Kaore Valley
    Travel / Tourism
    Gifu Pref. Sekishi Itadori Kawaura
Kaore Valley is located in Itadorikaore, Seki City. It is surrounded by Mt. Samondake, Mt. Hinagadake and Mt. Takinami and formed by cliffs with a total length of about seven kilometers. Iwatsutsuji (a kind of azalea) around early May and fall foliage from late October to early November are the best to gaze on so you can see the beautiful scenery matched with emerald green on the surface. Particularly, the fall foliage here has also been selected as one of Hida and Mino’s top 33 fall foliage places.
  • Koga Valley
    Travel / Tourism
    Gifu Pref. Sekishi Horadokouka
Koka Gorge is located in the Horado District in the northwestern part of the city of Seki, about a 40-minute drive from the Mino Interchange. A lovely section of the Nagara River runs for 4km through the gorge, and part of it has been designated Oku Nagaragawa Prefectural Nature Park, with rest areas and other facilities. The riverbed is made up of giant rocks and rock formations and has a whitish color, easily visible in the remarkably transparent water. Spring greenery and autumn leaves are also beautifully reflected in the surface of the water, and such sights are part of the year-round attraction of the gorge.
  • Yoshida River
    Travel / Tourism
    Gifu Gujo-shi Meiho Otani
The largest tributary of the Nagara River, which flows east to west through Yawata-cho, Gujo City, and joins the Nagara River running north to south in the middle of the city, Gujo City's Yawata-cho was originally developed by the Yoshida River and developed as a castle town. From the Miyagase Bridge over the river, one can see the crystal clear water so clear that one can count the stones on the bottom of the river.
  • Kataji Gorge
    Travel / Tourism
    Gifu Pref. Minoshi Katadi
Kataji Gorge—where the river never runs dry even in periods of drought, and the river water remains pristine even after heavy rainfall—is an approximately six-kilometer-long gorge located at the foot of Mt. Fukubegatake, the highest mountain within the boundaries of Mino City. Kataji Gorge and the surrounding area have been designated as the Oku Nagara River Prefectural Natural Park. The many waterfalls of differing sizes (such as Meoto-daki Falls) are well worth seeing, as are the huge rocks and strangely shaped rock formations (such as Senjo-iwa); there is a two-kilometer-long footpath that visitors can follow along the Gorge.
  • Amidagataki Falls
    Travel / Tourism
    Gifu Pref. Gujoushi Shirotorichoumaedani
The Amidagataki Falls, which are famous for having been depicted by the ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai in his “Shokoku Taki Meguri” (“Journey to the Waterfalls in All the Provinces”) collection, have been ranked among the Top 100 most beautiful waterfalls in Japan and the Top 50 best water landscapes in Gifu Prefecture. With a height of 60 meters, this is without doubt the most famous waterfall in the Tokai region. There is a footpath leading up close to the plunge pool, so visitors can appreciate the power and beauty of the waterfall at close hand. Amidagataki Falls are located around 30-minute drive from the Hakucho Interchange of the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway.
  • Gujo Hachiman Miyama Limestone Cave
    Travel / Tourism
    Gifu Pref. Gujoushi Hachimanchoumiyama 421
A Natural Monument designated by Gujo City, the Miyama Limestone Cave is a treasure trove of ancient history created by mother nature. It stays roughly 15-16°C year-round, so it is cool in summer and warm in winter, and it takes 30-40 minutes to explore. Also, it is a limestone cave without lighting, so you can engage in spelunking (cave exploration) if you want. Closed from December to early March. Approximately 25 minutes by car via Gujo Hachiman Interchange on the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway.
  • Itadori River
    Travel / Tourism
    Gifu Pref. Sekishi Itadori
A clear river running south to north almost through the exact center of the former village of Itadori a 40 minute drive from the Mino Interchange on the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway. The quality of the river’s waters is high and it is a popular destination for rafting and fishing. The area around the river is also dotted with campgrounds, and the river sees many visitors, particularly during the camping season in summer. The river’s waters are highly transparent, and a boat or raft on the river looks as if it is floating in thin air. The seasonal scenery and interplay of water and green foliage here attracts many tourists both from within the prefecture and throughout Japan.
