白毫寺の五色椿

大和三名椿のひとつ。秋の萩も有名であるが、春にかけては一本の木にいろんな色の花が咲く五色椿が代表となる。根元の苔が消滅しかけていた。聞いてみると、地面が焼けて元気がなくなったらしかったので、園芸用の砂を入れたという。普通は苔を生やしたくない部分に撒くと思うのだが。
