Riverside cafes and museums line the streets of Nakanoshima. The sparkling water and river air will give a refreshing start to your morning, and after cruising for 20 minutes you might like a little break.
Brooklyn Roasting Company in Kitahama is waiting for you with delicious pastries and a mean cup of coffee. If you head out to the terrace you can see clear across the river to the Osaka City Central Public Hall, a Neo-Renaissance building with red brick walls and arches dating from 1918. Take some time to soak in the scenery with a drink and a treat.

The riverside roads are a breeze to cycle through, and after a few minutes you should be able to see the moat of Osaka Castle. Once the castle proper comes into view, it’s nothing less than impressive. Walking to the Main Tower would take a while, but luckily you’ll be coasting by the pedestrians on a bike.

Take a nice long stroll through Osaka Castle Park, and when you start to get hungry, you can walk over to Miraiza Osaka-jo shopping complex. There you can stop in one of the restaurants with a view of the Main Tower for lunch, or try a classy take on takoyaki at The Konamon Bar Rikyu.
We recommend taking a load off at The Konamon Bar Rikyu, too. The octopus-filled balls, or takoyaki, are a specialty of Osaka, and Rikyu lets you decide on which sauces and toppings to put on the tasty snack. It’s an airy, modern space distinctly Osaka.
If you’re visiting during late February to early March, then the Plum Grove at Osaka Castle is covered in vibrant pink plum blossoms. You can get some gorgeous pictures before hopping back on the road.

On the way you’ll run into bustling areas like Tsuruhashi, which is Osaka’s Korea Town. Feel free to stop off and see what the vibe is like, maybe pick up a bite to eat, while you continue the course southward.

    Shitennoji

Shitennoji is known as the first Buddhist temple in Japan. Its beautiful 5-Story Pagoda is often the main attraction for visitors, but the temple grounds themselves have their own charm. Although Shitennoji is situated right in the center of bustling Osaka, the temple offers a rare space of quiet, perfect for contemplation and reflection. As an added bonus, the temple has a pond where you can see dozens of turtles. Watching the little turtles sun themselves or plop into the pond is a favorite pastime of visitors, and somehow it never gets old.

You can feel the towering presence of Abeno Harukas even from far away. Standing at 300 meters tall with 60 floors, it’s Japan’s tallest building. It should be easy enough to find while you make your way through the city. Pedal towards the mammoth skyscraper for the next stop on the course.

Now that you’ve arrived at Japan’s tallest building, it’s time to head on up to the Observatory. Spanning from the 58th to the 60th floor, the Observatory offers a breathtaking panorama of Osaka, and portions of the Observatory are even open-air. For those on a budget, there’s also a free observation area on the 16th floor.
After the excitement of Abeno Harukas, head across the street to Ten-Shiba, a laid-back park area with a nice lawn. Kick back like the locals and just enjoy the weather.

    5:00 p.m. Tsutenkaku and Shinsekai

    Tsutenkaku

    Tsutenkaku

At last we come to Tsutenkaku, the tower that’s become the symbol of Osaka. Just as important as the tower itself is the over-the-top cityscape around it. Shinsekai, with its colorful lights, towering statues above storefronts, and electric vibe, is one of the images that comes to mind when people think of Osaka. At sundown the area is arguably at its most beautiful, and you’ll see the golden light descending on the streets as the neon signs blink on.
Shinsekai and Tsutenkaku are a densely packed tourism dream, too. You can eat Osaka’s famous kushikatsu (fried meat and vegetable skewers) and then take your fill of Insta-worthy pictures around town. Since you’ll be riding a bike to the next destination, though, skip on the alcohol. Save the beer cheers for the last location.
