On December 12th 2020, Eric Rose, one of the leaders in starting Starbucks opened his first global store, ERIC ROSE, named after himself in Omotesando, Tokyo. The store is in a very nice neighborhood and a walking distance from the fashion hub, Harajuku. Back in 2011, Eric has already begun his shop, Morning Glass Coffee + CAFÉ in Manoa, Hawaii where he currently resides offering coffee made with special blends especially hand picked from Hawaii while it’s fresh and roasted at the cafe everyday. Loved by both the locals and tourists, the artsy cafe with delicious food took a journey across the ocean and settled down in Tokyo. As Eric’s first global store named after himself, he hopes to serve good food with authentic coffee to the Japanese community so that customers can appreciate the product, the coffee, the food and develop a sense of community.

    ERIC ROSE

To those who are interested and want to appreciate good coffee and food, this is the place to take a visit. The pungent aroma of freshly brewed coffee swirls in the air as the barista adds a measured dose of ground coffee to a filter, pour over hot water and drains through the coffee and filters into the mug below. Being selective about the amount of coffee which can be consumed freshest and most deliciously, the coffee is served one size, being 12oz and single origin only. To maintain the same quality as Morning Glass Coffee + CAFÉ in Manoa, Hawaii, here at ERIC ROSE in Tokyo, there are 3 to 5 different seasonal single origins available. One of the recommended drinks besides its signature black coffee is the Maple Nuts Latte made with rich espresso with a finished touch of steamed-milk flower. The latte has a great balance of sweetness and bitterness with a savory aroma of nuts which fill through the nostril as customers take a moment to enjoy the drink.

Compared to any other cafes and restaurants, ERIC ROSE attempts a different approach and pays attention to cooking its gourmets with bringing out the full flavour of the ingredients. This means that although there is a recipe for each of their dishes, the master chef will try out the materials every morning and alter the amount of seasonings like salt, pepper etc even if it exceeds or be less than the amount of the original recipe. For example in the case of a tomato, if the tomate is sweet, salt is added more to balance out the flavor. Like so, all other ingredients are altered daily so that every ingredient may be savoured. Having such great hospitality and keepings its quality, ERIC ROSE serves a number of jaw dropping gourmets with menus changing by weekdays and weekends and holidays.

Clean and minimalistic, the cafe wall painted in white with a textured wood is perfect for displaying artworks. There are few artworks put up on a wall but these are not for decorations but can actually be purchased. Every month, ERIC ROSE plans to rotate around different artists as if this cafe also serves as an art gallery. For its grand opening, the artwork in the cafe is by a contemporary artist, Masato Yamaguchi who is based in Tokyo.

Sitting inside for a relaxing time with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and cooked dishes or sitting outside to feel the cool breeze from the surrounding greens, ERIC ROSE cafe is a perfect place to spend some quality time. Within a walking distance from the shopping districts of Harajuku and Omotesando, stopping by here for a quick breakfast or lunch in between shopping is recommended.
