Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa is a Secret Sightseeing Spot
There are many exciting places to visit in Tokyo such as theme parks and famous shopping areas. However, being just a 2 minute walk from Shinagawa Station, one of the best options for those with limited time for sightseeing is Shinagawa's “Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa”. If you have a bit of time to spare before heading back to your hotel, it’s also a great place to drop in on your way home from other sights, and is especially well-suited to those with children as there is plenty in the theme park for kids to enjoy.
About Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa
The Aqua Park is easy to find, simply exit via Shinagawa Station's Konan Exit, cross the pedestrian crossing and take a short stroll up the hill. Not only is it close to Shinagawa Station, but the park and the surrounding tourist area of Shinagawa lies within a business district, which is relatively quiet compared to the endless crowds in the more touristy parts of Tokyo.
"Dolphin party" where you can ride 6 kinds of sea creatures
The Aqua Park is located in the corner of the Shinagawa Prince Hotel, within an entertainment city of sorts containing attractions such as bowling alleys, food courts, and movie theaters. Although the aquarium is located in the center of Tokyo, it’s not the biggest aquarium in the city, but what it lacks in size is made up for by its fancy, artistic design and spectacularly decorative light shows.
The romantic atmosphere of the "Shiny Starry Bar"
In the aquarium’s main hall, artistic projections and various decorative features which vary seasonally are on display, creating a visual spectacular which allows the natural beauty of sea creatures such as dolphins to shine even more magically.
The exhibits and shows extend beyond just marine life, as you’ll also find attractions such as a merry-go-round and buffet restaurant. You can also take a break at the café bar, designed to give the impression that you’re out at sea in amongst the marine life.
"White trees of light creating a beautiful entrance"
Right now the aquarium is holding a special winter illumination called “NAKED STAR AQUARIUM-Christmas in the Starry Sky”, which will run for a limited time from November 2 (Sat.) to December 25 (Wed.), 2019.

"Bright Sky Street", a collaboration of starry sky ornaments and marine life
Definite highlights of "Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa" are the thoroughly entertaining productions that incorporate seasonal changes into exhibits and shows, based on the concept of a "fusion of sound, light, video and creatures of the sea".
A fantasy space wrapped in a starry sky called "Jellyfish Ramble"
Within the "Immersive Illumination" you can experience a fantastic sensation which feels as if you were lost in a sea of light. It’s where state-of-the-art technology and the sea world merge to create wondrous fantasy.
The cute figures on the glittering magic carpet
You can also see penguin and fur seal shows at Sky Over City. The animals move in a rhythm that makes them seem like they are dancing. Why not come and enjoy some therapeutic time surrounded by beautiful light?
The only place in the world to see the "Dwarf Sawfish"
The natural light illuminated underwater tunnel "Wonder Tube"
What’s the main attraction of the aquarium? It’s the only place in the world to see the unique sawfish known as the "Dwarf Sawfish" in captivity. Compared to normal sawfish (which can also be seen swimming alongside the dwarf sawfish in the aquarium), the dwarf sawfish is smaller and far cuter.
The sawfish can be found in a romantic underwater tunnel, illuminated by natural light, called the “Wonder Tube”. You’ll be able to see the graceful movements of the fish swimming around as you stroll through the wondrous 20 meter long tunnel.
Only place in the world to see the "Dwarf Sawfish"!
At Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa, you’ll be able to see around 10 different types of rays, including the Alfred Manta (Nanyou Manta), which can only be seen in eastern Japan.
