Kyoto Aquarium is fun in any weather and kids will love the assortment of sea life, including cape penguins, seals, and dolphins.

Once you’re inside, find out what the feeding times are so that you can watch the animals when they're the most active. After that, decide on which dolphin performance you'll be attending. If you haven't seen a dolphin do a filp before, this will be a real treat.

Kyoto Aquarium has a come out with a new summer event "BASSHAAAN". This word is a Japanese onomatopoeia meant to emulate the sounds of splashing and crashing water.

This summer event takes place at the aquarium’s Dolphin Stadium where children are invited to approach the pool during the show. Getting soaked by the “water curtain” and by the dolphins will be a refreshing experience. Just be sure to bring them a change of clothes.

The event is free with an aquarium ticket, but check the homepage for times, as they change daily.

Night-time Aquarium

Night-time Aquarium

The Night-time Aquarium is a special event that takes place at different times every year. This year, it will continue until December of 2019.

Take a magical family stroll through the aquarium during extended evening hours. Receive a personal lantern to see the water tanks and enclosures lit up making for a beautiful time.

If that wasn't enough, attend the nighttime Dolphin Stadium. It will most assuredly put a smile on everyone's face. The event price is included with an aquarium ticket.

Kyoto International Manga Museum

The Kyoto International Manga Museum is the largest manga museum in Japan, with around 300,000 volumes in its collection.

TOEI Kyoto Studio Park

This movie theme park will make you feel like you’ve slipped back to the Edo period. The Edo-style set has been faithfully recreated to mimic those used in period pieces. There are also Samurai Sword Fighting Shows and captivating street performances to keep everybody entertained.

Ninja Climbing Shinobori

Ninja Climbing Shinobori

Ninja Climbing Shinobori (忍登) is the newest attraction at Toei Kyoto Studio Park, opened in March 2019.

It lets participants wear a harness and climb up a 7-meter wall with various challenges before jumping all the down. Participants must be over 3 years old and 100 cm tall. Trying out all the walls usually takes around 40 minutes in total. Only a fixed number of participants are allowed per day, so head over early.

A Cold, Chilly Kingdom

Toei Kyoto Studio Park holds this event every summer, and it’s a water gun fight that’s super popular with kids.

You can feed the monkeys from inside the hut

Wild Japanese Macaques

This is where you can see wild Japanese macaques right up close. Monkey Park Iwatayama has a little monkey park at the top of the mountain, which is actually very close to the entrance.

Kyoto Nantan Fireworks Show

For those who will be in Kyoto on August 14th, should go & see the Nantan Fireworks. This show is a dazzling display that uses thousands of fireworks to light up the night sky.

The show takes place along Oi River, so procurring a seat may be quite difficulut. Those willing to get a good view of the spectacle might be interested in the paid seating areas (500 yen per person).
