게나시야마 산기슭에 펼쳐진 나가노현 유수의 역사를 자랑하는 온천지. 개장 시기에 대해서는 여러 설이 있는데, 쇼무 천황 시대의 교기라는 승려(또는 수행 중인 수도승)가 발견했다는 설도 있고, 사냥꾼이 다친 곰을 뒤쫓다가 발견했다는 설도 있다. 에도 시대부터 “유나카마”라는 제도에 따라 주민들의 손으로 소중히 지켜온 온천지로, 현재도 30개가 넘는 원천과 풍부한 수량을 유지하고 있다. 온천가에는 무료 족욕탕과 13개의 소토유(공동 목욕탕)가 곳곳에 위치하므로 온천 투어를 즐길 수 있다.
